Back from Michigan
After six jam-packed, fun-filled, exhausting days traveling to Michigan, we are finally back in Florida, where the temperature is about 30 degrees warmer and the land is a lot flatter. We started our journey up north on Wednesday afternoon after wising up and ditching our idea to make it to Michigan overnight. After about 8 hours in the car, we grabbed a hotel and finished our journey on Thursday.
Once we arrived in Michigan, there was certainly no time to relax. We fit in a trip to the Detroit Science Center, Henry Ford Museum and Detroit Zoo. We took a tour through downtown Detroit on the People Mover. We ice skated and roasted marshmallows in the streets of Detroit at the Winter Blast. We played in the snow for HOURS, having snowball fights, sledding down nearby hills and making snow angels and a snowman. And of course, we watched as Adam’s baby cousin was baptized. (Adam did great as Godfather, even though he wouldn’t wear the red rose like I suggested.)
We made so many wonderful memories on our quick trip to Michigan. We spent time with family, Aubrey saw and played in snow for the first time and we all managed to make it through the extremely cold weather. But I’m sure it was quite obvious we were Floridians. Aubrey jumped in the snow every time we walked outside, even when she was barehanded or simply wearing a pair of jeans and sweater. I whipped a fiery marshmallow around in the air trying to stop the flames. And Adam took a spill on some ice and managed to rip his only Sunday dress shirt.
But now that we feel like northern pros, we’ve started making plans for our next trip up to Michigan. This time, we think we may try a trip during the fall. So if anyone knows of any exciting must-dos in the fall up north, please do tell! We are looking forward to another trip packed with fun.

Stacy,
I was born and raised in Metro Detroit. One of my favorite places to visit in MI is/was Frankenmuth MI. It’s located off I-75 near the Saginaw/Bay City area just below the thumb area. It’s a very unique German themed town with excellent restaurants and the largest Christmas business called Bronner’s. Bronner’s is the main focal point of Frankenmuth. Be ready to be amazed by that huge complex (acres)! You may have seen their signs along I-75 on your way to MI. I’m now retired and living in the small burg of Alachua. Go Blue!

Stacy – an absolute must in the fall in Michigan is a trip to the Franklin Cider Mill. It’s a historic mill still run by water wheel. You can watch the apples being pressed and ,best of all, drink some amazing apple cider. They are also famous for a spiced cake donut – served warm. I miss the cider mill so much. The cider you can buy in the grocery stores doesn’t come close.
